7 April 2008
Despite the most substantial changes to tax returns in a
decade, IRIS has risen to the challenge and the April 2008 tax
update, incorporating all the Tax Return amendments for the 2008
year for Self Assessment, was despatched first class on Friday
evening to its 5,500 customers.
The new Practice Software update (Version
v9.0) has been shipped so accountants have the option to begin
working on their clients’ tax affairs from day one of the new tax
year.
The main area of change for tax professionals
for the 2007/08 tax year is the complete redesign of the personal
return by HMRC. This is the first time that this has happened since
Self Assessment was introduced in 1997. Due to the unique way
in which IRIS works, IRIS Personal Tax users will find that the
changes to the data entry are relatively minor, so there will be no
need to learn their way around a new set of data screens.
A ‘box finder’ has been included to assist
users in matching the new return fields to the data entry. In
addition all context help and all knowledge base items on the IRIS
web site have been updated with the new box numbers to make the
transition to the new returns as easy as possible.
Other enhancements to IRIS Personal Tax
include FBI Validation, which checks the production of Internet
Returns for data that would cause a rejection online, and the
calculation of foreign capital gains tax.
Robert Salvoni, Managing Director of IRIS
Accountancy Practice Solutions commented: “We believe that we are
first substantive software provider to release the April update.
This is excellent news and my thanks must go to the Development
Team, Product Managers and QA who have all worked like Trojans to
get this out on time.
“IRIS continues to be the most secure and
reliable choice for the profession: a fact that is amplified by the
recent round of acquisitions and the news that some software
providers will
be disappointing their customers with staged
releases of their tax software well into 2008.
Quality remains our uppermost consideration,
but it is gratifying to know that our customers will not be
inconvenienced by a delayed release.”
