For the past two decades J Greenwood Builders Ltd (JGB)’s focus
has been contracting. The company undertakes all aspects of
building contracting, as well as industrial and domestic painting
and decorating.
In addition, their workshop produces a broad range of
manufactured joinery, from windows and doors to specialist joinery
manufacturing. The company also has experience of speculative new
build housing.
Over the years they have developed a broad and stable client
base including education bodies, Local Authorities and Housing
Associations.
Their commitment to delivering a high quality product and
first-rate service has resulted in steady growth and a turnover in
excess of £10 million per annum.
JGB’s mission statement is “to be an efficient and effective
building company offering excellent service to its
customers." With that in mind, the organisation operates under
the HMRC Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), following the scheme
requirements to the letter.
Due to problems caused by an unsatisfactory relationship with
its incumbent financial management package, the acounts team set
about identifying a new solution. Accountant David Chew
comments, “We were finding our existing software very limiting,
despite only using it for two years. Due to a demanding
workload, researching new software was not an easy option for us so
it was a pleasant surprise to actually be contacted by a
professional software vendor with information about a replacement
system that would potentially meet all of our needs.”
Having spoken with IRIS Enterprise Software about the Exchequer
solution, David organised a demo of the product on his
premises. He also spoke to two existing Exchequer customers,
to get their feedback on the product.
David continues, “I spoke to a local firm who uses Exchequer and
had heavily researched their options for 12 months, before finally
selecting the software. I trust their opinion but also spoke
with another very satisfied customer, with similar CIS
requirements, before making my final purchase decision. The
demonstration I received from IRIS Enterprise Software was also
very impressive - there was no comparison against other products on
the market.”
JGB will be up and running with Exchequer in the second quarter
of 2007.
The team will make particular use of the Construction Industry
Scheme functionality, which calculates CIS deductions and other
values - assisting then in production of
HMRC Returns. The module helps reduce the administration
burden on companies within the construction and allied industries
whilst improving cash flow management and budget control.
In conclusion, David comments “The CIS aspect of Exchequer was
far more sophisticated than any other offering in the market and
was one of the main reasons we chose the solution. It will not
only help us meet the requirements of the scheme, but also to
streamline our project and job costing especially when
sub-contracted employees are involved.”
