Job Summar

This technical author role focuses on communicating educational messages and self-help to specific audiences at levels the user can fully understand. This involves interpreting the products and solutions then designing and writing documentation. The information is often presented through marketing comms, web pages, bulletins, instruction manual, how to guides, online help and videos.

 The focus of this role within IRIS is responsible and accountable for the creation of self-help and online training materials for our Accountancy solutions.

 This position requires close interaction with Product Management, Marketing, Sales Management, Support and Engineering.


Main responsibilities 

Researching and information gathering:

  • understanding the business systems and applications for which documentation is to be prepared;
  • gathering and analysing the information needs of the user
  • researching competitor systems

 

Communicating and collaborating:

  • attending team planning/briefing meetings;
  • questioning developers and business analysts to clarify technical issues and obtain information;
  • liaising with in-house developers, business analysts and quality assurance

 

Writing and editing content:

  • writing, editing and presenting information in clear and simple English and to fit with the agreed style, making sure the information is organised effectively
  • copy-editing the work of colleagues within the organisation
  • editing text to fit the standards, style and format
  • preparing illustrations:
  • screenshots
  • flowcharts
  • table of contents, indexing and glossaries
  • videos

Qualifications

  •  
    • Ability to write in a clear, concise and consistent style
    • Good documentation skills and the ability to produce visually attractive instructions
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills, to gather information from and for people
    • Ability to absorb information quickly
    • Knowledge and experience of a range of software packages desirable; including Adobe Acrobat, RobotHelp, Conerston, Camtasia, Snaglt, Captivate

  • Degree level education in a business related subject or commensurate experience
