Job Summary

An experienced data architect is required is required to join and help establish a Business Intelligence Centre of Excellence (BI CoE) team as part of a major transformation programme of work to deliver group wide systems and trusted data, enabling improved customer experience, simplified processes and insight driven decision-making.

You will be the key liaison point between the business stakeholders, project & development teams and IT to define and deliver a robust data governance model (definition, ownership & quality) and then ensuring that the controls are in place to maintain governance during the transformation programme.

Your role will include membership of the Technical Design Authority that has responsibility for technical and quality assurance of the programme.

The BI CoE team will have overall responsibility for maintaining the IRIS data warehouse. The future state target-operating model for the data warehouse is still to be agreed and built and this role has a major input into its definition and design (technology, analytic tools and visualisation). The current data warehouse is providing key management information and you will be responsible for governance of it and then the seamless transition of data and models to the new warehouse.

There is an expectation that once the key data governance framework and data warehouse target model have been delivered this data architect role will be become permanent and you will be responsible for a smooth transition, handover and mentoring of your replacement.

 

Main responsibilities

Responsibilities are:

  • Understand the totality of the group’s data and information needs.  Catalogue and maintain a structured description of the implementation of the data architecture across all group systems and databases, including master data and systems of record
  • Represent the IT strategy at the Technical Design Authority, ensure that all relevant data-related concerns are appropriately considered in all TDA decisions
  • Support data users to understand data standards and engage with stakeholders to develop and maintain existing standards in line with business growth
  • Maintain a structured description of the data architecture and data dictionary that is available across the whole organisation and publish this information in an easy to understand format to the business
  • Identifying and acquiring new data sources
  • Working with audit, data owners, developers and system administrators to monitor and ensure data compliance
  • Working with Business Analysts, IT designers, developers and delivery teams to ensure data governance rules are adhered to during system design and build
  • Reviewing requests to extend the BI/MI capability of the current data warehouse and schedule/manage the delivery of these requests using an agile framework
  • Publishing relevant data from the data warehouse to appropriate users in a format that ensures all data governance criteria are met
  • Resolving data governance and quality with kew stakeholders

Qualifications

Educated to degree level

Good English, Maths and IT

Data architecture, data governance, data modelling accreditations or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Experience

Compulsory:

  • At least 3 years in a similar role
  • Extensive experience of implementing good data governance into organisations
  • Understanding of business processes associated with “Lead to Order”, “Order to Invoicing”
  • Ability to write & present clearly and logically to all levels of the business
  • Subject Matter & Data modelling
  • Detailed understanding of relational data technology specifically MS-SQL
  • Experience of data warehouse design and good understanding of the main methodologies and schemas; Kimball, Star
  • Programming experience including SQL scripting

 

Desired:

  • Experience of CRM and ERP systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite
  • Knowledge of BI modelling tools such as Power BI
  • Experience working in the software or related sector
  • Experience of managing a team
