Job Summary

To deliver specific allocated requirements as part of a wider deliverable, including input into designs but primarily focused on coding and unit testing of changes to the product. Completes work items as part of a formal software development lifecycle and delivers software to high quality and within agreed timescales.

Main Responsibilities

  • Execute software development tasks assigned within agreed timescales and to a high quality standard.
  • Work on assigned defects ensuring problem is reproducible therefore prove it has been resolved once the changes have been made.
  • Produce accurate estimates for assigned development tasks.
  • Participate actively in design or code reviews.
  • Contribute to production of design documentation.
  • Contribute to production of test plans as required
  • Contribute to production of supporting documentation, both internal and external facing
  • Achieve agreed productivity targets in order to ensure development tasks are delivered within budget and to schedule. Reporting as early as possible to team lead/manager where deliverables cannot be met.
  • Collaborate with development team under supervision of Team Leader and direction of senior developers.
  • Review technical specifications for tasks assigned, providing comments and feedback to producer.
  • Ensure all personal work is reviewed to the relevant development standards
  • Timely and accurate reporting of assigned task status as required by Team Leader/Manager
  • Escalate product issues and suggest product improvements
  • Escalate all issues in a timely fashion
  • Ensure adherence to internal software processes as required by team leader/manager

Qualifications


BSC or equivalent in a software engineering discipline.

 

Development Experience

 
Previous experience as a software engineer for a company producing software products.
High level of demonstrable competence in at least one main language/technology.
Previous, demonstrable experience of object-oriented theory, programming and design.
Experience of formal software development lifecycle.
Experience of team based development.
General familiarity with current technologies and direction of the software industry.

Technical Experience

Compulsory

Significant experience of (as least one):
Visual Basic 6 and the Visual Studio 6 IDE.
.NET Framework 4.0 and the Visual Studio 2012 IDE
Significant experience of object orientated programming and design
Significant experience of data access technologies such as ADO (2.8), DAO (3.51), JET 4.0 and ADO.NET.
Significant experience of Access 97 and above as an integrated application RDBMS.
Significant experience of SQL Server 2000 and above as an integrated application RDBMS.
Significant experience of developing commercial desktop applications.
Experience of at least once type of formal Software Development Lifecycle or Methodology (i.e. Agile/MSF/Spiral/Waterfall/Bespoke)
Experience of UML

Advantageous

Experience of Crystal Reports and/or Microsoft Reports
Experience of XML Technologies (XSD / XSL / XQuery / XPath).
Experience of InstallShield 12.
Experience of a formal testing framework such as NUnit.
Experience of Industry Design Patterns and Practices.
