77% of teachers have said their stress levels in work have increased over the last year, a study has found, with pay and pensions being two main factors.
The research, which was carried out by ComRes, found that the biggest cause of workplace stress among teachers was related to their workload (79%), followed by concerns about pay and pensions (66%).
50% of the teachers surveyed said they had had to reduce general household spending due to pay freezes and increases in pension contributions.
Auto enrolment, which was introduced last year and is being rolled out to businesses across the UK over the coming months and years, is the biggest single change to pensions in decades. It is estimated that around 11 million people will be affected by automatic enrolment, and the majority of these may have never contributed to a workplace pension scheme before.
