Living in the smartphone generation

Recent years have seen technology increase at an ever growing rate, with smartphones becoming more and more popular. eMarketer has estimated that by the end of this year there will be 30.9 million smartphone users in the UK, making up 48.4% of UK residents and 60.4% of UK mobile phone users.

This trend is set to continue, and by 2017 we should see use of smartphones within the mobile phone market skyrocket from 66.7% up to 80.9%. This will take the percentage of the total UK population using smartphones from 53.7% up to 65.8%.

Looking at these figures it is hardly difficult to see why we have seen such a huge increase in smartphones. Although there where phones with certain features found in smartphones earlier, it was in 2007 that Apple launched the first iPhone and changed the game forever.

6 years on and the market is flooded with smartphones from a range of suppliers on a range of operating systems such as Apple iOS, Google Android and Windows Mobile. For many people, having the right smartphone in their hand is equally as important as having the right brand shoes or handbag.

But the main appeal of smartphones can be boiled down to one basic function: making your life simpler. Now while some people may not agree with this, the current statistics show that many people do. With one of the newest smartphones in your hand there is no end to what you can do.
