How secure are your payslips?

Payslips contain highly confidential information relating to salary, bonuses, commission, tax and more. Despite the private nature of this information, a recent survey found that one in ten employees admit to rooting through bins to look for payslips.

The survey was carried out by paper shredding company Fellowes and found that two thirds of employees secretly discovering what their colleagues are paid, with one in five claiming to have found out their managers’ salary this way.

The report highlighted additional security issues with paper payslips, with a quarter of office workers admitting to having left confidential information on a bus or train.

Darryl Brunt from Fellowes commented on the findings, saying: “people are far too complacent with the security of personal information.”

E-payslips, such as IRIS OpenPayslips, offer a much more secure way of distributing payslips to your employees. With e-payslips, your payslips will be published to a secure online portal, where the employee can then view them via their computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Only the employee can view this confidential information as they need to enter their own secure login details to access the e-payslip.

The September edition of Payroll World focuses on the benefits of e-payslips, as a secure way to deliver payslips, while also saving your business time and money. Mark Paraskeva, CEO of IRIS SME Division, was featured in one of the articles in Payroll World, which you can view via the link below.
