Your questions answered from the IRIS & Earnie Online Payroll Conference (Part Two)

Here is part two of our series answering questions from last weeks’ IRIS & Earnie Online Payroll Conference. Yesterday we focused on some of the Holiday Pay questions we were asked; today we’ll focus more on the questions surrounding auto enrolment and the IRIS AE Suite.


We’ll be covering three questions during each blog this week, however everybody who asked a question during the conference will be contacted directly by the relevant department here at IRIS to have their question answered.

Question One

Q: “The IRIS AE Suite™ doesn’t seem to accommodate paying pension contributions via salary sacrifice. Will this be developed in the future?”

A: The IRIS AE Suite™ can indeed handle salary sacrifice as standard, however your package my need configuring if you are unable to set this up. The IRIS AE Configuration training is presented in webinar format, and will walk you step-by-step through setting up your software correctly. When fully configured, the IRIS AE Suite™ is capable of handling your business’s auto enrolment responsibilities in-line with Government legislation.

Question Two

Q: "What do I need to do if any employee opts out of auto enrolment but is still being included each month?"

A: From the “Pensions > Configure Pension Fund Details” menu, select the fund and click “Edit”. Click on the “Output Files” tab and change the “Include” field to “This Fund Only” or “This Fund + No Fund” which should solve the issue.

Question Three

Q: “Where employees choose to pay additional contributions above the standard percentage, can the software handle this, and how would it deal with possible changes this would bring to National Insurance savings?”

A: The IRIS AE Suite™ enables you to update both the employee’s and employer’s contributions against the standard percentage. Additionally, you can add the National Insurance uplift this would bring to the contributions.
