Problem

When trying to open company data the user is getting the following error:

unable to open company data likely the data file has become corrupted and you will need to restore from a back up

If the user attempts to restore a back up they get the error:

Resolution

Update 30/01/2019

We have developed a utility which will upgrade your PAYE-Master data files to address the issues caused by the recent Windows Update.

Please visit www.iris.co.uk/pm for the utility and usage instructions.

You will no longer need to remove the Windows Updates once this correction is in place on your system. 


 

We are aware a number of customers are affected by this issue and are currently investigating this with the highest priority.

We currently believe this issue is being caused by a recent Windows update published by Microsoft and are working to identify the offending update.

We will update the KnowledgeBase here, along with your software login message, with further information as the investigation continues.

Windows 8.1 / Server 2012 R2: 

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows( KB4480963)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480964)

Windows 10 / Server 2016 / Server 2019: 

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480116)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480966)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480961)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4483234)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4476976)

• Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480978)

• Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4480976)

Removal of this update via Control Panel | Programs and Features | View installed updates should allow normal use of payroll while we investigate a permanent fix:


You will need to restart your PC after removing the problematic update.
