Problem

It has been identified that when trying to install or update IRIS following error can occur. Error 1304: Error writing to [file] Verify that you have access to that directory. This problem is usually caused by the user having insufficient rights. The 1304 error message you are receiving is often the result of attempting to install software while logged onto the system with a Limited User Account. Limited User Accounts do not have the proper permissions to install software. ONLY Computer Administrator accounts have the proper permissions to install software. So, if you are using WinXP, Win2000 or WinVista, the first thing you'll want to do is to make sure you are logged onto the computer with a Computer Administrator account BEFORE you attempt to install (or uninstall) any software.

Resolution

Following the steps below may resolve the issue. Add the user to the administrators group
  • Login as Administrator
  • Click Start, Click Settings and Click Control Panel
  • Double Click User Accounts
  • Click Add, Type in the username and domain and then Click Next
  • Click Other, Choose Administrator and Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Log off as Administrator
  • Login as the user
  • Retry IRIS Follow the steps detailed in KB IAS-6723 to install IRIS Workstation. NOTE: IRIS cannot supply any additional information regarding user rights and permissions. Should further assistance be required please contact your own IT Support provider
