- Problem
- On filing an electronic CT600 it is rejected with the following error: Authentication Failure
- Resolution
- There are two possible causes for this error: 1.The user name or password is incorrect. 2.The Revenue does not recognise the UTR. Check the user name and passwords by logging onto the Government Gateway www.gateway.gov.uk. If this works, check the UTR by looking at the client list, setting it to display all clients and searching for the UTR (press Ctrl-F to find). Also ensure there is a 64-8 in place for the client. Users are required to ensure the ID and password are setup either under – Setup | Practice option | Tax options (Requires a ‘MASTER’ user) Or, Client | View | Accountant | (click onto the magnifying glass next to Alternative Accountant) | View | Tax options (Requires a ‘Master’ user), if alternative accountant option has been enabled. However, if everything appears to be correct, due to a HMRC service update on the CT Live service, users are now advised to contact the Online Services Helpdesk for further assistance. The below includes some information from the HMRC website which can be found Here
