Problem
Resolution
This KB is specifically for Sole Trader ‘Calendar periods‘: Open the Trade period, Period Settings tab. You can tick the calendar box only if the account period end date is ’31/03/YYYY’ (for example if your periods are like 31/03/2027 then it allows it to be ticked), now click Retrieve Periods again and it may then retrieve periods ending in calendar quarters AND ONLY IF HMRC send them back that way (so if dates do not change then HMRC may not have those dates on their side). Also as soon as the 1st Quarter shows as ‘fulfilled’, you cant tick/untick it anymore.
The ‘period settings’ tab has the correct calendar dates showing BUT in MTD, the DTH screens have not changed with the new calendar dates: try these three methods. (Option 2 is the one which works for a majority of these calls)
- Click ‘Retrieve periods’ again and then check DTH.
- Open the affected trade period and delete the entered income/expense etc data (but not delete the period), so its empty of info. Exit the period and reopen it – then click ‘retrieve periods’ again (and retick Calendar dates), Now run a refresh and change to another PT client and go back to the affected client, now check DTH which should be corrected, now import the data into PT again. If the data comes from AP/BT, then load BT and click refresh PT, and reload the PT client again.
- Delete the affected period in PT (Note: if the data comes from AP, it will also delete the data from AP, so make sure you keep details of the entry as you need to recreate it in AP again) and add back in the period and retrieve period.
If you get a Error: ‘Rule start date not aligned ‘ = its usually involving calendar dates and to apply the fixes from above: If DTH screens have not changed with the new calendar dates:
Property ‘Calendar periods’ For Example: 1st April to 30 June, 1 July to 30 Sept, 1 Oct to 31 Dec, 1 Jan to 31 Mar. No this is not yet available in PT MTD. IRIS Development team have checked with HMRC and they confirm the Calendar accounting period information is not yet collected for property businesses (This may change in future).
