Personal Tax MTD- Retrieved Quarter obligations missing in DTH or incorrect/unknown values?

Created Date

Problem

Resolution

a. Where the Quarter obligations do not show in DTH or the DTH quarters are empty etc yet they appear under the ‘Period Settings’ screen.

b. Where you have trade/property data showing incorrectly in a quarter, so you deleted all values but it still shows in a quarter

c. If you have multiple sole trades in MTD but the data sent to HMRC are being placed to the wrong trade

Here are the refresh steps to get the periods to reappear in MTD DTH OR remove unknown values OR correct multiple trades:

  1. Go to Period Settings and click ‘Retrieve periods’ again and check DTH. If still missing then try the next steps
  2. If its the sole trade obligations missing then delete the sole trade accounting period in PTAX – (if using AP, then you must first take a BUP extract there). Any Quarters already sent to HMRC are saved but the obligations will reset status and change to ‘obligation not met’ (look at step 12)
  3. Delete the tax year – make sure client can still re-enter the info they entered already, if any. Any Quarters already sent to HMRC are saved but the obligations will reset status and change to ‘obligation not met’ (look at step 12)
  4. Move to another client and then back in to the affected client
  5. Recreate the tax year after you had deleted the tax year by using the ‘Bring forward’ pop up.
  6. Add the accounting period and make sure it is correct (standard or calendar)
  7. Period settings and Retrieve obligations (may need to ignore error message) and make sure it is correct (standard or calendar)
  8. If there are multiple sole trades: A HMRC screen should appear to link the specific PT trade to the trade name held by HMRC – make sure its been assigned correctly or the data sent will be sent to the wrong trade in HMRC.
  9. Access MTD DTH – do the periods show (If there were unknown values, are they now gone?)
  10. Restore the AP extract if needed, and Refresh PT from BTAX
  11. Access PTAX – ( reload Csv if needed) does it have the data again and feeds into MTD?
  12. If any quarters were successfully sent before the delete of period and tax year there is no need to re-submit a quarter as HMRC has already received the data (look at the bottom right of DTH). This will show in the ‘Business Summary’ screen.
