Resolution

HMRC may shave a issue with your clients UTR.

  1. Make sure you are on latest IRIS version (Help | About).
  2. Update to the latest version 22.2 and then regenerate.
  3. Go to Client | View | Tax tab. Check the clients UTR. 
  4. Delete the UTR code, save and close.
  5. Go back in and enter in the UTR again manually. Save and close then regenerate the return.
  6. Log on to your HMRC Government Gateway and check the UTR is still the same. If the UTR has changed, re-enter it.
  7. If the UTR is correct and you still get the same error, contact HMRC and state you are getting a 1608 error message for this client and they should rectify the issue. When you do get through to HMRC, ask to speak to a senior as they have more knowledge of this situation.
