- It has been reported that when generating an iXBRL report the following error may occur: system.data.entity.exception the underlying provider failed on open system.data.sql.client.sql exception: timeout expired the timeout period elapsed prior to completion or the server is not responding.
- Resolution
- This error usually occurs as a result of an incorrect firewall configuration on the Server Machine. Exceptions will need to be created for each instance of the SQL Server that has to communicate through the firewall. The resources listed below will guide you through settting exclusions for both the SQL Server program itself and the relevant ports. NOTE: The following information only refers to the Windows Firewall as supplied with Microsoft Operating Systems. If other firewall products are used you will need to seek additional assistance from your own IT Support provider to set these exceptions.
