Problem

Resolution

Once you have completed all 4 quarter period submissions for a client (The 4Qs show as GREEN accepted/obligations met), then you need to review the end of year submission, check everything and submit it to finally complete it for your client:

HMRC checks your NON TRADE and PROPERTY entries in Personal tax – Your entries made in Personal tax not related to trade/property will also be checked (e.g. not imported by CSV/from AP) – it may ask to confirm names/accounts numbers/ etc.

HMRC Confirmation email or Receipt? MTD users do not get a HMRC email/receipt like a normal submission – users just need to look at ‘submission history’ and see what’s listed OR login to their ASA on the HMRC site and see what HMRC has received for the client

Tax calculation’ screen – This tax calc is what HMRC has received from you (not what shows in your PT). You can run a calculation in PT (outside of MTD screens) if you want to compare values. If you see an issue then you can contact HMRC.

Trade/Property screen – these need to be completed

NOTE: If you have used a 3rd party app (e.g. Kashflow/Xero) to submit the 4 obligations, the top half of DTH quarters will all show as ‘RED’ as not completed (which is by design as its only meant to record what quarters were submitted in PT only for now). Look at bottom right for ‘Obligation met’ for each quarter to confirm it’s been received by HMRC and you can ignore the top half of the DTH screens.

The 5th row – ‘Adjustments/Allowances’ row is not yet mandatory, however we are asking people to submit it. It will be mandatory as it contains a period of account in a future update and force all users to submit it.

Once all the relevant quarters and rows are GREEN on left side- the ‘Review and Amend’ button can be selected – You need to follow the final 5 steps below

  1. Review and submit the Sole trade and Property values
  2. Review the ‘Other Income’ sections
  3. Go through the notifications checks
  4. Submit
  5. Make any Amendments and edits after submission

1. Do a final review of the HMRC+ IRIS values for Trade and for Property. If correct then SUBMIT on bottom right- do this for both types of income. This completes the quarter work for your clients trade and property

2. Click on End of Year Submission tab on TOP LEFT side- It will show the non trade/property values on bottom right in ‘RED Not completed’ (eg data not coming from the 4 Quarter work and picks all up all the manual entries in OT) , check all the ‘Other income and reliefs’ section, open each of the rows and if all are correct then proceed to Notifications

NOTE: The Capital gains and Partnership income wont be show here yet as their own distinct ‘OTHER INCOME’ rows – it will be out in IRIS Autumn version 26.3.

That completes TRADE/PROPERY and OTHER INCOME checks and will show like this – all 4 boxes are GREEN

3. Notifications section– you may want to to check the names/details match etc between IRIS and HMRC. If HMRC have a record you don’t have – open it and click ‘create’. What is shown here is what HMRC has listed on their side and its not from IRIS.

4. SUBMIT and complete the end of year. Go to End of year Submission option on the left side. Once steps 1/2/3 are all checked/correct now click ‘SUBMIT’ (on the very bottom right) – this will also mass green tick ALL the ‘Other Income’ rows in one click (if there were all red – ticking submit will change all to green). This submission will be recorded in ‘Submissions’ option on left side.

How do clients approve the final report for end of year? You have done everything, all Green ticks and you want to show your client the final tax calc? There is no option to do this in MTD. So print the relevant report and show that to the client and get them to sign/approve it in your agreed method for pre and post submissions.

5. How to make any Amendments and edits, if you see incorrect values et. To submit an amendment after finalisation use this row in Notifications – Click the ‘Need to Make Post Finalisation Amendment?‘ and this warning appears , say YES.

If you need to edit ‘other income entry’, then make a manual edit in PT,  once done, go back to DTH screens and open the row (eg see the Interest below) in MTD screens and  ‘reset status’ for the relevant edited row, then – close it, the system will pick up the corrected values and allow them to submit it again. We recommend you make all the edits to every other income in one go and then click Submit.

New Trade/Property ‘adjustment option’ on version 26.2 new button ‘MAKE ADJUSTMENTS’ at bottom under several TABS and do note it has a deadline limit for it to work and it will be locked out (as HMRC has a strict rule on deadlines!)  – it reopens the boxes and allow to edit values (see image below) after all obligations have been submitted and the tax year end has passed. Currently this only looks at the status of obligations that are sent from Iris (and not form 3rd party apps, this will change in the future)
