IRIS Personal Tax- When loading a specific client, PT closes with error/no error?
Resolution
Personal Tax closes with no warning or you get a error message – when you select/load a client and after a few seconds/minutes it closes Personal Tax or an error message appears (All other IRIS Users who try also have the same issue). This can also happen when loading PT normally (not selecting a client yet) as it remembers the last client you were looking at. This is a issue caused normally by a marriage record on the affected client and if Smarttax is on (as when loading PT it tries to ‘auto load’ this last affected client which is causing the crashing).
You will need to switch off Smarttax first and then load the affected client – read the steps below.
If Personal Tax closes before you can switch off SmartTax – You can stop the automatic selection of the last (affected) client which triggers Personal Tax to close. Load Business Tax, Accounts Production or P11d etc. Right-click in the bar across the top of the screen (where the client ID box is entered), a screen displays where you can select to ‘Do not remember the last client selected’. You can then load Personal Tax and go to Setup and untick Enable SmartTax, now search and load the client.
How to fix issue on affected client – Once you are on, check if you have a Marriage set up with a NON CLIENT, can you delete this marriage and add it back and now switch Smarttax back on.
