Problem

If you are running an SQL Server it may be necessary to set an exclusion for the instance you are using in Windows Firewall.

Resolution

Following the steps below will help you identify the SQL Server Instance you are using.
  • Click Start
  • Click Programs
  • Click Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or 2012
  • Click SQL Server Configuration Manager
  • In SQL Server Configuration Manager
  • Click SQL Server Browser Service in the right hand pane
  • Right-Click the instance name in the main window
  • Click Properties
  • On the SQL Server Browser Properties page
