“I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” – Ernest Hemingway.

As a software provider, one of the greatest tools at our disposal is the voice of our customers.

After all, our customers are the ones using the products day in, day out.

This is the ethos for our Ideas Portal – an area for customers to leave feedback and make requests in relation to our cloud payroll software, Staffology Payroll.

In this series, we’ll showcase the improvements we’ve made to Staffology Payroll based on the most popular requests.

Let’s dive into three recent updates that are making your day-to-day easier.

Navigating between employees (162 votes)

In the Ideas Portal, you told us it would be brilliant to have navigation arrows to move between employees during a pay run, rather than having to exit and scroll through the list each time.

Additionally, you flagged that the same functionality in ‘employee records’ would also be incredibly helpful.

What we did

Based on this feedback, we implementedthe following updates:

  • When you update an employee record, you now stay within that record instead of being returned to the employee list
  • We’ve added navigation buttons so you can skip between employees seamlessly – just click the arrows to move to the next or previous employee
  • Your selected tab now carries over automatically when moving to the next employee, so you don’t have to keep re-clicking the same tab
  • There’s also a quick search function that lets you jump to any specific employee by typing just three characters of their name, payroll number or NI number
  • The navigation order follows how you’ve sorted your employee list, so it adapts to your workflow, whether you work through employees by name, payroll number or any other order

*This update has saved approximately 72 hours of user time, based on an estimated 5 seconds saved per task.

Report Writer (123 votes)

Another highly requested feature in the Ideas Portal was the ability to export entire packs of reports rather than downloading each report individually.

You also told us you’d love more in-depth reporting, using existing pay items and employee record data.

What we did

We’ve now built a comprehensive Report Writer, giving you the flexibility to create custom reports tailored to your exact needs.

Customers can now build templates using existing pay items and employee record fields, then run them whenever they need them – no more having to export multiple reports individually.

Note: we’ve now created several new ideas in the portal for the next phase of reporting development – you can vote for the features you’d like to see next here.

Tax code history on employee records (98 votes)

The last feature we’ll cover in this blog is the update to tax code history on employee records.

You told us that it would be extremely helpful to see an employee’s tax code history directly in their record, with dates showing when codes have changed.

What we did

Tax code history is now available within employee records, complete with change dates.

This makes reconciliation, handling queries and tracking HMRC changes much easier.

Now, all the information is right there when you need it.
