Problem

IRIS Business/Personal Tax: The Transmit Button is 'greyed out'?

Resolution

Accessing the Transmit Internet Return tool and finding the tax return you need to submit to HMRC but Transmit is ‘greyed out’. Then this is a setup requiring the IRIS Practice Management (PM) product.

On the very bottom left, locate and click Approved (if its greyed out as well then read How the approval button works? is on this KB) and at the very bottom of this KB. Now transmit the return.
Your IRIS Practice Management (PM) product has to be switched on (This may be a PM setup for certain clients or all clients), so you need to ‘approve’ the tax return before you can transmit it. Clicking Approved to update the job stages section within Global Practice Management. This Approved option will be disabled for non Practice Management users and Practice Management users who have not set up an automatic job stage for return approval. KB guide link

If Approved is also greyed out then your PM has not been switched on. If you do not have PM then you don’t need to tick Approved.

This example below is when PM is not used, so you do not need to click ‘Approved’ and can transmit now. If the Transmit and Approved are both greyed out then switch on PM and then click Approved.

If you need to contact the PM team on any questions or issues with the Approved option then raise a IRIS Community Case and raise a Practice Management issue.

If the Transmit Button and the Approved button both do not work (greyed out or even after ticking Approved you still cannot click Transmit). Check user ‘privilege’s’ if the PT ‘Can transmit tax returns electronically’ row has a green tick. If you have still have issues then read the workaround below or if that dosnt work then contact the Practice Management support team.

Workaround in PM: When there is a ‘job stage‘ with the “Approval Received from Client” automatic completion. Removing this PM job stage means that clicking the Approved button is not required to transmit and the Transmit button was no longer greyed out and could be clicked.
