IRIS Accountancy- MTD Status: A fatal error has occurred attempting to access HMRC gateway

Resolution

You get this message when you load a client from the search tool on the main IRIS accountancy screen. It may happen randomly for a client.

This message doesn’t stop you from working on the client, so you can ignore – The message is only linked to the ‘HMRC data retrieval’ process for this one client. Do check if data is coming from HMRC into PT, see below (if you expect no data then ignore it).

Tax

Personal Tax HMRC data retrieval. Go to Personal Tax, load the affected client and click on “Retrieve HMRC data” and verify that the data has been returned and populated as expected for the Employment, Class 2 NIC, Pensions etc (when selecting HMRC value, a value is within there). Then check the MTD status again, you may need to restart IRIS as well. If the red x still shows then you can ignore it and continue working on this client as it wont affect them.

If HMRC data doesn’t show in PT then read this KB: https://www.iris.co.uk/support/knowledgebase/kb/personal-tax-hmrc-data-retrieval-error-not-working-no-data/

News on HMRC MTD (delayed until 2024): https://www.iris.co.uk/support/knowledgebase/kb/personal-tax-making-tax-digital-and-mtd-status/
