Problem
IRIS Personal Tax- Run a Paper or E-Checklist but crashes
Resolution
Personal Tax is crashing while its running/producing the Paper or E-Checklist for ‘All Clients’ and ‘Range of clients’. You may get a message iwinptax.exe has stopped working and may also show a Exception warning as well see below. Can you check these steps below:
- Which checklist are you running (Paper Or E-checklist)
- It crashes when generating the checklist (The most common occurrence)
- It crashes when printing/saving it
- It crashes when uploading to clients OS account (Affects E-checklist)
- It crashes when importing the finalised checklist into PT (Affects E-checklist)
There is a confirmed DEFECT in 2025 with Paper Checklists and IRIS has released the 12th MAY 2025 Service Pack to fix this. If you need to send a URGENT checklist to clients then go back to the the previous year and run a TRADE Computation, CG Computation and Schedules of Data for the client and send this comp to the client to edit and send back to you.
Please also go through these steps as well (as it may not be the defect above):
- It can be caused by a data issue with one or more of your clients. For example, when you run checklists and it starts to generate them, it may reach a specific ‘affected’ client, it will freeze and stop the entire run and/or then crashes PT. First Load prior year, and go to Edit/mark data entry complete/ and ensure every section is completed, then run a final tax comp for your clients, Change to next year, edit, bring forward data, run tax comp. Now run a paper/e-checklist”. If you get same crash then do not use the ‘All Clients’ option but again use the ‘Range of clients’ option and Ignore/bypass the specific name where it freezes and run it from the names afterwards (Run the checklist just before the affected client, stop and then run a 2nd time after the affected client) If that works, then manually look at the clients you believe is the cause. At least you can narrow down the affected client(s) and bypass them so you can get the majority of the checklists completed.
- If you cannot tell/see a ‘clients ID’ when it stops/crashes then use ‘Range of clients’ and run it for the first 10 clients, if it works, run it again for the next 10 clients etc (You may want to edit this ’10’ count depending on your client numbers eg 5, 15, 25 etc). It provides evidence when it crashes within the 10 clients and you can then avoid the affected client(s) so you can complete the rest of the clients checklists.
- Ask another PT user on another pc to try same steps to generate checklists
- If it affects every PT client and every user on all pcs in the 2025 year (eg Don’t use ‘all’ or ‘range’ but instead run a checklist for just 1 client, then try a 2nd client etc). There is a planned fix on the week commencing 12th MAY 2025 Service Pack release (subject to change). We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
- If PT is crashing when you get to ‘Report Output Screen’ (Not when its generating the list) and you tick the options ‘PDF’ and/or ‘On Screen’ and you click OK and then PT crashes. Please ask use another pc or another user to try and show the checklists. If its fails on all pcs and under all users then please update all Printer Drivers and restart IRIS. If it fails to show/save as PDF then raise a Community Case and state it fails when trying to save as PDF etc.
- If it only affects one client on all machines and urgent – please try the other checklist – eg there are two: Paper checklists and E-checklist. If neither work then go back to the the previous year and run a TRADE Computation, CG Computation and Schedules of Data for the client request the data directly with the client and manually enter data into PT.
