Upgrading IRIS Docs
When upgrading IRIS Docs, it is possible to install the latest version without having to do the incremental updates. For example, if a client is on IRIS Docs 6.20, they can jump straight to the latest version.
Before starting
Prior to upgrading the following information/steps need to be identified/followed:
- Identify the service account used for the INVU Services:
- Open services.msc on the Docs server
- Locate Invu V6 Business Engine
- Note the username in the “Log On As” column
- Identify the service account password
If you do not have a note of the password for this account, reset it via active directory (or equivalent) and then put the new password on all of the services which start INVU on the server - Download the Docs upgrade file:

- Open SQL Server Management Studio
- Connect to your SQL Server instance
- Expand Databases
- Right-click the database, select Tasks | Back Up….
- Under Destination, confirm that the “Back up to:” field reads as disk and that the path for your backup is correct
If you need to change the path, Click Remove to remove the existing path, and then Add to type in a new path
- Click OK
Upgrade Iris Docs on the server
- Ensure that all users have closed Iris Docs
- Right click the downloaded iso file and select Mount
- Run Setup.exe
- Select “I accept the terms in the license agreement” & click OK
- Click “Upgrade existing server installation”
- The services will stop, update and restart
- Once complete, the Invu ECM Services Setup will open. Click Next.
- If ECM Service Ports appear as below, click Next
- The service account’s username should auto-populate
Enter the Password & click Next - Click Install
- When the ECM service install is complete, click Close
- When the main installer says “Setup has completed”, close the window
Upgrade Iris Docs on the workstations
Iris Accountancy Suite & all Office products will need to be closed while this update is run
Open Docs on the workstation and this prompt will appear
Click OK and the update should run automatically

Upgrade the Iris OpenSpace Connector on the server
A new version of the Iris OpenSpace Connector is included in each Iris Docs upgrade. It is always recommended to install the latest version of this as it is a key component it the 3-way integration between Iris Accountancy Suite, Iris Docs & Iris OpenSpace. This only needs to be installed on the Docs server.
- Right click the downloaded iso file and select Mount (this is the same file as the Docs upgrade on the server)
- Open the OpenSpace Connector sub-folder
- Run the Iris OpenSpace Connector Setup file
- Click Next
- Select an install location & click Next (the default location is the same as the screenshot)
- Enter the Instance location & Database name for the Iris Accountancy Suite database
If you are unsure what to enter, the best way to check is to open the Iris Accountancy Suite main menu | Select Help | About | Details tab | “SQL Server” & “Database” are the 3rd entries on the left side - Click Next
- Click Install
- Once complete, Click Close
Upgrade the Iris Docs Outlook Email Assistant addin
Completing the below steps on the Docs server will mean that the next time Docs is opened on each workstation the Iris Docs Outlook Email Assistant addin will upgrade to the latest version.
- Right click the downloaded iso file and select Mount (this is the same file as the Docs upgrade on the server)
- Open the sub-folders: series6server | series6 | components
- Copy the emailassistant folder
- Paste the folder in a network location all users can access
- Share it with all users and note the network path
- Open Docs
- Click Administration (the cog icon in the bottom left)
- Select Global settings | Edit global settings
- Select Outlook addin
- Enter the network path from step 5 in the “Office Add-in Install Path” box
- Click OK
