Problem

Resolution

When generating a SA100/CT600 etc Tax return – starts to process/validate it but it stops/keeps thinking/nothing loads up (may freeze/crash). When generating a Report like a Tax comp/Schedules/Trade comp and it will not load up on screen (may freeze/crash)

If a Individual IRIS ‘Client’ (Where all users who try this one client) is having these crashing issues (and other clients are fine) then please first run fix A), B) and D)

If a Individual IRIS ‘User’ (Other users have no issues): please apply all the fixes starting from A first

If Multiple IRIS users are reporting this then apply fixes A) and C) only

If Every client and user, on all workstations are reporting this and fixes A), C) do not work – go to the very bottom of this KB.

A) Go to IRIS Main Menu – Tools – Clear Window Positions – Click OK to the prompt. Now run the reports/tax return.

B) If the affected individual user/pc has multiple monitors linked together – On your PC desktop (not if you are on a Hosted site)

• Go to your Windows options and find the ‘Change Display Settings’

• If there are 2 screens – Switch screen 1 and 2 around – i.e. change the primary display. Click apply. Now go back and restart IRIS again and run the tax return/reports again. There is a random environmental issue caused by the multiple monitor setup.

C) Give full permissions to the affected users

Get the ‘IRIS ADMIN’ user from your IRIS team to go to IRIS icon/right click/ properties/ security / Edit – get the Admin user to log in and ensure everyone has full control (see steps below). Restart IRIS and now run the reports/tax return AND/OR The IRIS Admin user goes to the ‘IRIS folder’ and ensure users have full control/permissions. Restart IRIS and now run the reports/tax return

Check the permissions on the IRIS folder on the File/Apps Server and on the Terminal Server/Remote Desktop Server.
For network use- the IRIS folder must be shared on the network. Please ensure that the Everyone group has Full Control on both the sharing and security tabs:
•     Open My Computer
•     Go to the IRIS folder
•     Right click on the IRIS folder and choose Properties
•     Go to the Sharing tab
•     Click the Advanced Sharing button
•     Tick the Share this folder option and Click the Permissions button
•     Ensure that the Everyone group has Full Control
•     Click the OK button and again Click the OK button
•     Go to the Security tab and Click the Edit button
•     Ensure that the Everyone group has Full Control (Note: if the group Everyone is not listed, click the Add button to add it into the list)

D) Ensure you are on the LATEST IRIS version – go to Help and About and will show a number with (SQL) then go to to IRIS Downloads page. Update your version and run the reports again (For example version ‘25.3.0’ has a fix to the reports crashing)

However IF ‘everyone’ is affected by the report not loading/crashing issue and the fixes above do not work- eg see below:

  1. All your clients are affected (OR ‘1’ specific client is affected)
  2. All IRIS users who try the affected or all clients
  3. All workstations/pcs are affected where IRIS is crashing
  4. You are on the latest IRIS version

If you are on the latest IRIS version then please contact IRIS Support or raise a IRIS Community case and state ‘All Clients and Users are being affected’ by the exact issue you are having and with screenshots of any errors as this may require the IRIS Technical team to check this.

Thank you for your feedback.
