Can you hear the birds chirping? Have you noticed the daffodils flowering?

That can only mean one thing: spring has arrived, and with that, Staffology Payroll has received some great new features!

In this blog, we’ve covered some of the recent product updates and what they mean for you.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) changes

As part of the first wave of Employment Rights Act 2025 reforms coming in April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay is seeing a structural shift.

Firstly, the Employment Rights Act 2025 is removing the three waiting days, meaning SSP will become payable from day one of illness, and employees will no longer need to wait until the fourth day to claim sick pay.

Additionally, the Lower Earnings Limit threshold (LEL) will be abolished, meaning SSP will become accessible to all employees regardless of their earnings.

To support these changes, the team have been hard at work updating Staffology Payroll, ensuring all these changes are reflected in the system to keep you compliant:

  • Where an employee’s average weekly earnings are below the standard SSP flat rate, Staffology Payroll will automatically calculate their entitlement at 80% of those average weekly earnings.
  • Staffology Payroll will automatically calculate SSP for any qualifying days from that point onwards.
  • Staffology Payroll will switch to day one payments automatically – no need to ‘complete’ waiting days after the changeover.
  • The system automatically splits calculations at the tax year boundary, so employees won’t be disadvantaged mid-absence, and you won’t need to manually intervene in these scenarios.

In our recent product update webinar, we also covered further system updates to accommodate the other upcoming April changes.

Average holiday pay

Staffology Payroll now supports calculating average holiday pay using days rather than hours, giving a more accurate result for variable-hours workers.

Within the system, ‘days worked’ and ‘pay’ can now be imported and then used in the daily average calculation.

Multiple payslip downloads

Following high demands from customers (the most-voted feature request on the Staffology ideas portal), users can now download multiple payslips for an employee across a chosen date range.

Simply select a date range, and the system will find all available payslips within it.

You can then download them as individual PDFs in a zip file or as one combined payslip document.

Bonus: how to run year end in Staffology Payroll

This time of year, we often get asked a lot of questions about how to run year end in Staffology Payroll.

During the recent product update webinar, the team ran through the process, showcasing how simple it is.

Once the final pay period of the tax year is completed in the system, users automatically get the option to ‘start the Year End process’.

From here, simply follow the on-screen instructions.

When the tax year is closed, Staffology Payroll will automatically roll into the new tax year.
