Problem

The windows in payroll aren't displaying correctly, buttons are missing or the window seems cropped / squashed or the workpad side bar only shows half of the width

Resolution

This will be down to a Windows setting called DPI which affects how large or small items and text appear on your screen.

If a user is reporting having a problem with the software and it is caused by the DPI setting in windows we now have another option rather that setting the whole desktop to 100% normal.

Essentially this will allow the user to have whatever DPI setting they wish for the rest of the desktop, but payroll will run at 100% normal setting. This option is available from Windows 7 onwards.

  • Right click on the short cut and select “Properties

  • Open the “Compatibility Tab

  • Tick the option “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings

If the compatibility tab isn’t present or the option does not have the desired effect, please follow the steps below to adjust the setting for the whole desk top:

For payroll to display correctly the DPI setting needs to 96 (100% – Normal)

Follow the steps below for your version of Windows:

Please note, after changing this setting you will need to restart your PC.

Windows 7 / 8 (Start from the desktop view in Windows 8)

  • Right Click on an empty space on the Windows desktop
  • Click “Screen Resolution”
  • Click “Make text and other items larger or smaller”
  • Select the option “Smaller – 100%” and apply

Windows 10

  • Right click on the desktop and select “Display Settings”
  • Use the slider “Change the size of text, apps and other items”
  • Select the option “100%” (slider to far left) and apply.
