Problem
When processing or previewing pay user gets the error:

Look on the employees pay variations and you will find similar to this:
The ‘fn’ indicates this pay code is based on a formula saved in the system. This error occurs when the formula the system is looking for cannot be found.
This usually occurs when payroll has been reinstalled to a new location, computer or network address and some of the original data has been left behind.
If you still can access the original PC / network location, look for any files with the extension .def. These are the formula definitions the system is trying to use. Copy these to the new PC / network location.
If you cannot access the original PC / location the formula will need to be created again. These are set up under ‘Company’ > ‘Alter Payments/deductions’. Click on the ‘Formulas’ button and re create the formula.
