Problem

I have opted out an employee using the pension dashboard and allowed the system to automatically refund the contributions in payroll. Now the employee payslip looks wrong.

Resolution

The way the payslip are reporting the pension refunds has caused some confusion.

The automatic refund process will pay the refund as a negative deduction (which becomes a payment). This was to ensure there are no problems with subsequent FPS submissions pension YTD values.

Unfortunately, this has caused the payslips to look as though the refund is being deducted again:

If you actually total up the payments and deductions you can see the net pay is correct and the refund IS being processed correctly.

To prevent confusion for employees you might wish to include a payslip narrative for those employees receiving a refund to clarify the situation.

For help including a narrative on a payslips read this KB.
