Problem

I have imported a CSV file, why does my Trial Balance not balance?

Resolution

Please ensure that the total of the CSV file balances i.e totals to zero. If it does then the main reason the Trial Balance does not balance when imported will be that within the CSV file, amounts have been imported to single sided entry accounts (non-contributing to trial balance) Check the import map and make sure that no single sided entry account numbers e.g. account 340, have been used. Select Setup | Import maps KB12204 | I have imported a CSV file, why does my Trial Balance not balance? Choose the import map being used and select Change then Accounts in import map and look for any accounts that are single sided entry accounts. If your not sure which accounts these are, post the balancing entry to suspense within the posting screen to make the trial balance balance and then run a trial balance through ‘Reports’. The trial balance will show the single sided entry accounts marked with an asterix. In order for the trial balance to balance a journal will be necessary to move these amounts to different account numbers. NOTE: The formatting of the cells within the CSV may also be a reason as to why the Trial Balance does not balance. To format cells Highlight the relevant column | Right click on Highlighted column | Select Format cells… | Select the Number tab | Select the relevant option – e.g. For the Amount column select your category as ‘Number’, decimal places ‘2’ and Un-tick the ‘Use 1000 Separator (,) box For further assistance please contact IRIS Support
