- What is a suggested dpi for scanning documents? Symptoms: Some documents are not properly OCR'd, or the barcode separator is not working correctly.
- Resolution
- If the dpi is set to a low figure then the OCR will fail to correctly identify characters to a high percentage, and the barcode separator will not be read correctly. The minimum recommended dpi for the barcode separator is 200 dpi, however depending on the quality of the scanner and the scanned images, the dpi might need to be adjusted higher to correctly identify characters. A suggested dpi would be in the region of 250 dpi, though it is recommended that the user tests this setting out on various documents, including the barcode separator (if they intend to use this facility) to determine the optimal setting which will balance accuracy of OCR, and speed performance of the scanner. The quality of scans vary from scanner to scanner so it is imperative that this is tested.
