The UK is set to overhaul its current Data Protection Laws in order to provide a more robust and up-to-date legislation for businesses when handling customer data.
The new Global Data Protection Regulation comes in to full force on 25th May 2018, and will bring with it a harmonisation of data protection laws across the EU, taking into account for the likes of globalisation, and the ever-changing technology landscape.

What are the key facts of the GDPR?
- Applies to any company processing the personal data of individuals in the EU.
- Potential fines of up to €20 million or 4% of the businesses annual turnover, whichever is greater.
- Individuals to gain greater control over their personal data by gaining the right to be forgotten.
- UK Government have now drafted a bill to bring UK laws in line with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation in time for Brexit.
