Pied Piper Nursery recently made the switch from HMRC’s free online PAYE tool to IRIS OpenPayroll, a secure, cloud-based payroll solution from IRIS. We sat down with Pied Piper Nursery’s director Valerie Cox to find out more about what led to this move.

 

Pied Piper Nursery is a family ran nursery in Glasgow which has been satisfying the childcare and educational needs of its local community for over 20 years.

 

Payroll was something I was used to handling with the free tools provided by HMRC, but the introduction of RTI earlier this year meant that this was no longer an option” Valerie commented.

 

“Due to the seasonal nature of our work, our staff headcount would vary from around 21 to 26, depending on the time of year. In the run up to RTI though, HMRC told us that their free online tools would only be available for businesses with fewer than 10 employees, so we needed to find an alternative option.”

 

After exploring a number of different commercial options, Valerie came across IRIS OpenPayroll, which straight away fit her unique needs.

 

“I spend up to 6 months of the year out of the country, so being able to access my payroll software from multiple locations without an additional cost was an important factor for me. I also needed a solution which could be accessed by multiple users, as we have a part time admin clerk, who sometimes runs the payroll in my absence.”

 

IRIS OpenPayroll is a cloud-based payroll software, meaning it can be accessed from anywhere in the world via a web browser on a PC, Mac or tablet computer.

 

“I have to admit, I was slightly wary at first of moving our payroll to the cloud, but IRIS OpenPayroll has been great. This will actually be the first month since implementing the solution that we have ran the payroll from the UK!”

 

With RTI adding an extra burden to employers, IRIS OpenPayroll yet again was able to ease this pain for Valerie.

 

“The automatic reporting function is great! I don’t have to worry about making RTI submissions to HMRC, these are all handled automatically by IRIS OpenPayroll, giving me one less thing to worry about! It took next to no time to get up and running and now I find it much easier to use than the HMRC tool I had been using previously.”
