Problem Agents are recieving the following message when completing their own business VAT submission "Failed to retrieve client obligations due to agent/client not being authorised" despite all steps being completed as required by HMRC as detailed in the following link.

Resolution This can be due to the user using the agent authorisation in the accountant screen, instead of alternative accountant. User must change the accountant by going to Client - View - Accountant - select alternative accountant - View relevant accountant - tick 'can act as agent'

If the 'IRIS requires authorisation from HMRC' reappears when going back into the client, then please re-authorise the software and for step 1. Sign into the government gateway using the business's MTD VAT login details, not the agent's.
